So I have the front cover off my 450ES engine, timing chain is way loose. While I have apart I would like to clean the gunk inside the cover and on the bottom of the clutch area as it's kinda ugly. Also what helps to remove the gasket from both sides, tried a putty knife but not working well? I can be doing this while waiting for my parts.....thanks....

a brake tag scraper ( straight edge razor blade scraper ) works for me for the gaskets , brake and part cleaner aerosol cans work fast on cleaning the inside the cover , if can use some cleaning fluid and a brush first , then the spray the cleaner

I used carb cleaner followed by compressed air to clean up the inside of the case. Used a rag soaked in it to help soften up the old gasket material then used a razor blade on the gasket surfaces. What I couldn't get off with the razor blade I hit it with a wire wheel on the cordless drill. I don't know if that's recommended, but it sure works fast.

I use brake clean with a pan then move to My parts washer to clean the covers.

To remove gasket a sharp wood chisel with the angle positioned on the case ! Not My idea found it on an automotive forum, works better than anything I have ever found !
