Just purchased a new Rancher and am wanting some tips/advice on the best way to get way back into rough country on a hunt without messing up your rifle and the scope. I had my rifle on my buddy's Polaris last year and the gun had gone so rattled around on the trip into where we were going that my sub MOA sight was way off. I understand it could be the rings, the scope itself, etc, but what rifle carrying setup have you used on say a rough 10 mile trip in to your favorite hunting area? Side note, my buddy had something similar to the Graspur ATV gun rack. Do you recommend a hard case? Any suggestions for research would be much appreciated!

I personally think almost all ATV gun racks are rifle destroyers, that will vibrate and loosing screws and actions
I NEVER use one, due to this, Had a gun shop and had countless customers come in with things being off after using them !

IF I HAD to carry a gun FAR on an atv, I would have the gun is a SUPER HD gun HARD gun case with a TIGHT fitting fitted inside to the gun!, and I would have the case strapped to the atv's rack, I would also insulate things between case and rack with some hd closed cell foam, to TRY and help things even more so!
I personally rather have a rile on a double sling on my back when traveling on an atv, BUt do know some places this is NOT legal, and if that was teh case, the above is how I have done so on an ATV in like places!

Sounds like I may just need more padding for the thing. Thanks for the input.

I always worried about having a gun in my front gun mount because of the scope. When I purchased a thermal scope for night hunting I solved the problem by adding a LaRue Tactical quick detach mount on the thermal and a Aimpoint I use during the day. These mounts are great and hold zero. No problem in over 3 years.

I keep both of these in a hard case tucked inside my fender saddle bag (in front of my left knee). I added an extra strap to the bottom of the bag and loop in through a hole in the footwell and back up to the bag to keep it from bouncing.

When I arrive where I'm going I grab the scope I want and have it on the gun in 5 seconds. I have dots of nail polish on the rail so I get each in its proper place. LOL.

I do have a Pelican hard case that I can use for the gun, or an extra one. This is a case I highly recommend.

I agree with you them pelican hard cases are top shelf IMO< , even water proof and float for the water guys LOL

I used to sell a bunch of them and the browning travel vaults, basically copy clones of them, pretty sure made by Pelican co too!
, down fall is there rather heavy, but that is also why there so solid!

I have a two rifle case for when I used to fly a lot to shoots,(they self regulate pressure too) darn thing with two rifles in it is about 50 lbs I think LOL
and NOT real heavy rifles either!

its not really just the bouncing on atv's that ruins things it the non stop vibrations that do most damage, even in cases long term traveling can have effect as things just ain;t MADE to handle LONG time frames of it, , short burst OK< but LONG term say an hour or two of driving on a regular basis will cause things to fail even in a GOOD case IMO
