This is a belated thank you to Helmut and Shadetree. Sorry for the long interval before getting back on the 350 rancher shift problem. Long and short of it is the fork on the end of the shifter drum snapped off, hense it didn't operate the switch. Had to pull the engine and take back end off. Traced wires in loom and installed a switch to fool ecm into thinking engine was in neutral. It will now start in any gear but because of centrifugal clutch it doesn't creep forward. Thanks for all the help and support
