My battery on my 07 Rancher 420 FM wont stay charged. I went buy a new battery and had the same issue. Im leaning and hoping towards the rectifier being bad. Has anyone had this issue before? I was also hoping someone can give me some tips on the correct way to test the rectifier for the correct voltage.

My work computer blocks videos so i cant see what the video is suggesting. So without knowing what the video is, i would suggest you do a Current Leakage Test. The specs on my 2012 is a maximum of 0.01mA, im sure your bike will be the same. If you test and get more than that, start unplugging one thing at a time until the current drops to within range. Depending on what you unplugged to get it to be back within spec will determine what would need to be done.

If you have a good multimeter, get the bike running and measure the DC volts and AC volts at the battery. Hope for around 13.8-14 volts DC and only a tiny amount of AC - around .02 VAC.

The cheap or freebie Harbor Freight multimeters struggle with measuring tiny amounts of AC. Auto-ranging on the meter scales can also give puzzling indications for AC.This is why I like my Fluke meter . . . no confusion on the scale.

Its just the security that corporate has on all the computers. For example i cant even see the image on that youtube video. All it has is a message from corporate that says

"Your requested URL has been blocked by the URL Filter database module of McAfee Web Gateway. The URL is listed in categories that are not allowed by your administrator at this time."

It also list a bunch of other info like IP Adress, Type Of Risk, Type Of Website, Etc.

Led , I am no computer guru by no means , but seems if he did what you suggested , it would be grounds for termination if he was caught at work breaking protocol and would think that there is a master cookie jar on the network he is on

I’ll be honest, I had not clue that that is what he was suggesting. By your right I wouldnt try it.

It’s doubtful it would even work because it’s not a block on my local computer itself. It’s a block on the corporate network server itself.

Don't you have your own smart phone? Or does your work collect those on the way in?

I might be naive but would think it you Blech-Bot'ed it , burned it , smashed it with a hammer , they could still have a way to tell what sites you were visiting during work time
fish is right about this also. you cant hide what you do on a computer, unless you know where an how to wipe the files you create. takes least 6 passes with a good wipe program. best quit while your ahead. or pull the hard drive and use a big hammer. dont mean to scare you, but, it is so...

Let it run for several minutes and check the DC voltage again. Voltage should rise (assuming battery is good) as the battery recharges after using the starter motor. It should reach 13.5 to 14.50 volts in a short period of time. Check the AC voltage as well, AC is a key indicator of a failed regulator/rectifier unit.
Here is a copy of the service manual.

The battery is brand new. I bought last weekend when it died and I thought it was the battery. I will let the battery charge all the way and start it up. I will let you know what I get. Thanks for the response.
