Ball bearing

Why is it Honda states in the service manual that they want you to press the pinion bearing onto the pinion shaft with the numbers facing out? It's just a split inner race angular ball bearing. I was taught to do this so you can read the numbers on the bearing but tonight I screwed up and pressed the damm bearing on with the numbers facing in and at $80 canadian for that bearing I don't want to damage it trying to remove it and reinstall it. Is there any other reason for this?

don't worry about it. it makes no damn difference which way the numbers face ?!. lol. in todays world, a simple micro fich parts look up tells you what bearing you need in the future. leave it alone. if I did every damn thing by the service manual ?, i'd never get things done , and I would be broke as hell trying to buy all of Hondas tools the book tells us to buy/use !..lol.

Leave it alone it's not really going to hurt anything. Honda wants you do install it that way so you can read it without taking it apart just like you figured.

It's just good practice because you can screw over the next guy that has to repair it, and in my experience the next guy is usually me....

the book also says to replace the rear differential case when the pinion needle bearing is bad ?, how many cases have you replaced ?..lol. I know I have not replaced one signal case !. parts have came a long way sense they were first made. like I said, looking parts up online in todays world don't mean anything when it comes to seeing what numbers are where ?. a quick look almost anywhere online will tell you what part you need.
Sometimes you don't have that luxury, I work on a lot more then just ATV's. At this point the deed has been done, leave it as is. But numbers facing out on bearings is just a good habit to get into.

As far as replacing the case half goes.....of course I replace the bearing Lol unless I've already ruined the case, which isn't unlikely either lol

Ok what's the number for that pinion bearing the OP installed, I don't want the Honda P/N the Honda dealer is 5 hours away, I got a big ride coming up this weekend and I have to get the bearing at my local shop, I had the diff apart before but installed the bearing backwards and can't read the number, I need to order it in the next half hour before they close or it won't get here for the big ride.......

lol, I order the kits, or oem. if I can't get my parts fixed right ?, I won't ride. you know as well as I do, oem is best, and if your not in a hurry ?, order a bearing kit from a site that list the bearing in the kit. not gonna argue over this, now your just trying to be the top dog here, done here.
Fired up again.....lol
