Since 12 pole OEM stators are no longer available what brand is everyone going too? Electrosport any good? Caltric has a good price but not sure they are any good.

ive installed caltric for guys on a budget - however, I would never trust one myself.

Pick up a good used OEM unit off ebay.

I have used ricky stators a lot as well. especially in Yamaha's. the last 4 were grizzly 660's and 450's. they are a little more costly but are a nice OEM replacement.

Manny, what where your concerns with the Caltric stators ? Did some of them fail ? What are the chances of getting a good one off Ebay? If the seller didn't know how to test them properly it could be a crap shoot.

With ebays return policy I would buy a OEM without hesitation. just buy from a reputable seller. If it doesn't work, your not out anything. just your time.

as for calctric - its all imported Chinese electrical components. I work on atv's daily. you quickly find out what lasts and what doesn't. They use a smaller gauge wire on most, along with cheap connectors. Just not quality.

If your wheeler doesn't trek far out in the backcountry and isn't relied on - I would say give caltric a try.

Where I ride I cannot count on a Chinese part. So its always OEM electrical components or ricky components if OEM isn't attainable.

Thanks goober for posting that link for me. But I believe that is a 18 pole stator. I need a 12 pole. From what I have been told you can't interchange them.

Manny I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. I found a used 12 pole on Ebay from a highly rated seller. I contacted him to see if he tested it before removing it and he didn't. He has a 30 warranty on it and will even pay for return shipping. Fingers crossed!!

I was curious as why Honda used 2 different stators for the fourtrax 300, the 12 pole and 18 pole ?

Honestly im not sure why they went to 12 pole, I have found them to be interchangeable nonetheless. I have swapped stators before with no ill effects.

I cannot remember what years I crossed, but I do remember the original being 12 pole burnt out and moved to a 18.

Electrosport.com has the esg482 and esg483 which is their 12 pole and 18 pole stators for the fourtrax 300's. They mention in their description to pay attention to which one you have before ordering so I figured if they are making both versions they must not interchange. I found several places that have new oem 18 poles but I passed them up because I didn't believe they could interchange.

Manny if you are sure that I could use a 18 pole I would go ahead and order one to have on hand before Honda quits making those as well.

Just a FYI I am working on a 1989 4x2 300. I am not sure if the stator I am replacing is original as I just bought this one last month.

Honda Parts Nation should have them or G&H Discount Atv Supply.
