Well, I agree this new site is not how we would have built it... had we fabbed it up ourselves. I just got here though.... still exploring quite a bit.
First thing I did was click through my profile to see what all got turned on following the move, that I may want left turned off...?! I advise y'all to have a looksee for yourselves to be sure you agree with those default settings, else correct those you disagree with.
I do not see any ads here, so I can't imagine what this site really looks like to most members. It sounds pretty bad though... worse than it ever was?
I'm gonna lurk for a bit until I learn more about the inner workings of this new software before I say anything more about it. But if y'all decide to run off, please shoot me an invite.
I'm dazed and confused. I understand xenforo's philosophy of keeping things clean and simple but the format, to me, is too spread out..., not concise... too many lines per page.... . lots of white space and I feel like I'm in scrolling Hell. Lots of scrolling to find/read a post. Also, the lack of clearly delineated "boxes" for each post really bothers me. Again, it feels very fragmented.
The other thing that really really bothers me is that the stickies are not labeled as such. Or, did I miss it?? They are listed a "Popular" posts?? I opened the Repair and Maintenance page and the first posts I see are topics with dates from all over the place and "last updated", whatever....... If I was a new visitor to the site and I saw those dates and did not know they were stickies I would think that is forum is not active. Does that make sense?? Those of you using the old classic mode probably saw this all the time. I simply logged in and went to Active Topics or Today's Posts so I did not see the stickies.
Like you
@retro, ads are not a problem. I've seen only one or two and it was text format within a post. I almost didn't notice them.
Thanks for the heads up on the account settings!
Dark Mode is better. I was able to take off my sunglasses.
I'll lurk and hope this format grows on me. What matters most to me is being able to quickly scan the active topics......get in and out quickly. I'll see how the "New Posts" works out.
