I love trail riding for hours on my Honda Foreman or the older Rancher. Getting tired of looking for friends who: 1. Have an ATV and 2. Can go

Starting heading out on my own, I load the ATV in my truck, I have a "truck tent" that I sleep in off the ground. So easy to explore this way without a trailer holding me back.

I know this can be dangerous, but hey, so is life.

Anyone else do this?????

Could bears be an issue in your area or any other ‘big nasties’? Perimeter alarms around your truck would be a good call if so.

I wouldn’t make a habit of it. I’ll take a run out to the local ATV club cabin once and awhile alone, just very basic trails, always take the Honda I don’t trust myself alone on the Renegade lol I’d be more concerned about rolling the bike on yourself or something and not having anyone to help you rather than a bear coming into your camp. You’d have to be pretty conservative with your riding.

I remember one night ride , where a couple of bikes didn't make it back to the house so I went back out by myself to look for them , there are multiple ways to go and I picked the wrong one they took , I had already changed my clothes as I was wet from riding earlier , so I am in flip flops and short pants , and sure enough I fall in a hole , get hooked on a root and the winch wouldn't pull it out , man , was that a bad walk home , no flash light , in the dark , I had left in a hurry and no phone or cigarettes , mosquitos galore , slipped in the flip flops twice and went down in the slop , threw the flip flops on side the trail and walked bare foot , and it was about a 2 mile walk thru the slop holes ---------another time I pulled a broke down bike back to the house then turned around and went to meet back up with the crew , I flipped the 450 over on it's side and I couldn't get it back over on it's wheels by myself , I had a phone and called many times before they heard it and it was 1/2 waiting for help to come , like Mac mentioned , it could have pinned me under the bike and I couldn't have gotten to the phone in the box

I ride in the woods by myself , but don't go more than a mile from the house , the walk out is rufffffff

I have been riding alone off and on for about 40 yrs, farthest I have gone is maybe 35 miles away from home as a kid at about age 10 and ona pedal bike, on a fishing trip
I have never feared going off alone, been dropped in Alaska by float plane and left for 10 days to 2+ weeks
I think many folks over think things and well, many folks just don;'t have any real skills or common sense too LOL
riding alone be it on ATV's, motorcycles, or what ever(even hiking or walking) accidents can happen, and its up to you if the risks are worth the adventure or not
going prepared for basic things helps, but I have also been in an accident in middle of no where all alone, that left me waiting for many hours till someone randomly passed by to go get help
I wasn't able to move or for sure help myself, I didn't walk for 3 months after that one, so the risks can be VERY high pending what your doing,
but BAD accidents can happen ANY WHERE, ANYTIME!
if you live in a bubble, it too can bust
My view has always been based on IF , I am willing to take the risks, and if I CHOOSE to, then IF something goes bad, I don;'t CRY about it, or blame anyone but myself

I seldom carry a phone with me either, grew up in a time before everyone had them and managed just fine?

one thing I will admit, as I got older I have taken less risks to a point, partially I think due to I have taken so many over the yrs, I just don;t feel the need to test what all I can do, been there done it kind of views these days

but Nothing wrong with riding alone if you enjoy it
NEVER having to wait for others to show up, them NOT being ready or prepared , going where you want to and stopping when and IF you want
riding alone has a lot of perks IMO
but do admit, having a good friend to ride with is just as enjoyable, there just harder to find with like minded ways!

Spot on, I was taught never ride further than you can walk, don't do stupid things. I am not young and healthy anymore, but do like the wisdom that comes with age.

Yes, like MrBB only not quite 40 years lol. I usually go for about an hour at a time before shutting the machine off, but i also go in areas i know from times before. If not, i go at an easier speed in case of running into something i dont know about. Another good tool, is Google (or Bing!) Satellite maps which show you what is in that area you are going before you go there. There is also a live GPS App i sometimes use called Endomondo. If someone was checking on your profile so to say, they only have to refresh the page & can see where you are going at that moment when you are running it. Also, you can check it later when you are done. Take some rope & an axe/machete in case you need to make a path out of somewhere. :O

Hi: I also go riding by my self -- sometimes over 100 Km --I carry enough food for a couple of days when in areas where you wouldn't see people for days --cell phones don't work 10 Km from home. I have no fear of animals in the woods.

I take off by myself quite a bit. Take a phone with me and as the crow flies am probably never further than about 5 miles from my house.

I've gotten stuck a couple of times and had to walk out. I guess there is a concern about rolling one over on you, or getting hurt and not being able to walk out, but I pretty much ride like a grandpa so I don't worry too much about that.

I take a phone and have service everywhere I ride, so as long as I don't bonk my head I can always call for help.

Rule of thumb: Have enough clothing that you will be comfortable overnight without fire.
Wear footwear that will let you walk out if needed.
Rifle is your choice .....
Also chainsaw & gas -- mans best friend when needed.

I ride alone from time to time and here are my personal rules.

Always on trails I know. Trails you don't know offer you with a good opportunity for problems.
I make sure my phone is charged up full.
I never ride unarmed for animals of prey, four legged, no legged, and two.
I limit my elixir of life consumption to a point that I know I will make good decisions. Very limited.
If everything goes to pot, I do carry a flare gun also.

If anything worse comes along then I accept that I might die. I will not sit indoors afraid of the outside world.

These ain't rules for everyone, but they are darned good suggestions.

I posted a couple of years ago about a guy that took one more ride by himself , they were all riding at night in Mississippi on a Sunday night about 12 midnight and was going home , they all loaded up and one guy said he was taking another ride , well he hit a tree with his head and they found him dead the next day when they went looking for him after work , he might have survived if someone was there

It can happen with people there , about 6 weeks ago we had a dozen bikes riding , I was second to last and my Can-Am 570 buddy was last , we went thru this bad hole where you have to climb out the ruts , the rest of the crew was just about out of sight and I was about 50 feet past the hole on dry land , I looked back just in time to see my buddy flip it over , his leg was pinned under the bike , and he was pretty close to his head under water , I grabbed him under the arm and held his head up till the other bikes turned around and came back , cause I couldn't flip that bike off him by myself , a few more inches and he could have drowned

I have personally seen WAY more BAD accidents when folks are in groups, than some across single riders that got hurt riding alone
and I DO think folks are much braver when there are EYE's watching them do dumb stuff, that maybe some won't do when alone
I have seen and been about a few too many deaths while in the outdoors and off road playing, I only found one guy, that was severely hurt that rode alone(broken shoulder and leg and some other issue's that left him stranded till I found him by dumb luck!
he was trying to jump a rather large ravine and came up short, both HIM and his MX bike, were thrown WAY off trail and down in a ditch out of MOST folks eye sight if they drove by!
I wasn't trying to JUMP the ravine, I was trying to climb it LOL
when I found him, again by DUMB luck, had I not been doing dumb stuff myself ALONE< odds are , he would have been there a LONG time
ended up I knew the guy very well too, a child hood riding buddy LOL

I personally have NEVER had any issue's with wildlife in the wilds, minus a few snakes that wanted to get closer than I cared for, and well they didn;t leave sucking in air! LOL

bears, NEVER a issue , some STRAY dogs that had IMO BAD owners, came close to getting put down a few times, and I had some run in's many many yrs ago with some weirdo's wearing trench coats and ringing bell's and carrying candle's in the middle of no where after mid night> that I till today have NO clue where they came from or what they were doing, BUT< they left rather fats when they seen me and a buddy were well armed and not wanting to play in there ??? games!

injuries happen, I would never NOT do something I wanted to just due to fear of WHAT IF"S
I would plan and use common sense and let life happen and enjoy all I can while I can!

I'll toss in, for a few years I've been messing around with handy talkies of a deferent type high power, built in led light, and a very LOUD emergency alarm and flashing led light, these radios can be programed for most any analog repeater, SOME ham, N some (not all) bands, have a very long battery life (can be recharged on the go. in a pinch...... Life saver! Fm radio only, the programmable transceiver range goes from 130.000 mhz - 170.000 , n 400.000 - 520.997 mhz, , with pl (private line) n dpl (digital private line) they have extremely good reseption of very distant stations, weather proof, NOT water proof (zip locks, or water proof storage of some type) has a multi language menu.....IMO tuff little suckers!
