Another MI Oldtimer

Hello all,

Just picked an 87 Foreman TRX350D off the top of the pile from a trailer load of scrap metal... for $20 cash, loaded onto my trailer! An hour later I got it started and to my surprise, it runs excellent! Turns out it is in excellent mechanical shape throughout, just needs a thorough teardown and reassembly for cleaning, re-lubing, adjustments, minor repairs, replace a bunch of missing parts, etc.

The reason the owner was scrapping it was because it caught fire in the battery box area, burned the wiring harness up back there and he couldn't get it to run again. He had hotwired it to get the ignition working after the fire, but he forgot to include a jumper wire for the fuel pump.... and eventually gave up on it.

I rode a 98 Foreman for a few years and in my opinion, it can't hold a candle for the way this durable beast is made! So, a full restoration project of this ole' tank is now well underway. I'm sure there will be something to talk about and share (and probably a question or two for the TRX350 vets) so that's why I'm here.

Wow, that is a super clean and shiny 350!! Looks like one Shadetree may have gotten his hands on.... Thanks for posting that link, I really like pics of them old girls. Mine will never be that clean, I got the purest red clay on earth here, but maybe it'll get close if the money holds out.

I didn't think to take any "before" pics, but I may have one or two on my phone. Right now the beast is in a gazillion pieces waiting on first shipment of parts (wiring harness, fuse box, battery box etc.) to arrive. Carb kit and starter kit arrived today so the carb is now fresh. Starter may get done in a couple days, then I gotta get some seals, brake shoes and pivot bushings ordered so I can put the front swingarm, steering stem, knuckles and wheel bearing assemblies back in it. Meanwhile, lots of parts yet to get scrubbed clean, repack with grease, and repaint. I'll start a thread in the TRX forum when I got enough of it going back together...

Thanks again for all those purdy girl pics!
