...and again, please don't ban me just because it's missing two tires. Our boys took to the '07 CRF50F (video posted previously) so quickly that I snagged this 2007 CRF70F for the older one who is 11 and much taller. This 70 fits him like a glove and he loves it. Now the two older boys are on bikes that fit them perfectly and they are riding together. It's cool to me that the CRF70F is identical in most ways to the CRF50F because my older boy was used to the 50 and he hopped on the 70 and took off because he knew exactly what to do. This 70 is much larger than the 50, in fact, doing some research I quickly saw that this 70 carries the same physical dimensions of the new CRF110F, only it's about 25 lbs lighter, has fewer speeds, fewer cc's, and is kick-start only. It actually has a larger fuel tank than the 110, which pleases me. I have been riding it around some too, and it's a blast. Anyhow, here it is:

I think you did the right thing starting your boys on two wheels, 4 wheels hurts if it goes wrong and at their age a lot can go wrong lol.
Hope you all have many hours of fun creed :)

Nice , I just told this story on another thread , para-phrasing myself " keep a close eye on the drive chain tension , my buddy bought one for his son and the chain got loose and dug a hole in the casing and was leaking oil bad his son didn't notice the leak and the engine was almost out of oil , this happened very quick , a couple of weekends , he was told by Honda that chain adjustment was a maintenance issue and not covered even after taking a bunch of pics by the service dept , being it was such a short time that it happened in and may not have been adjusted properly from the start and they denied the claim , found out afterwards that there is a case protector available "

You posted relatively recently the need to sell that Rancher and get a few things organized within the family, noble and the right thing to do. I am thrilled to see how this is unfolding for you to witness the joy through family, the boys and confident you will be on something of your own soon.... They do make a CRF 150, LOL

I'm sure you'll get around to riding on 4 Honda wheels again someday creed. Happy children and family first! Nice little bike... thanks for sharing!
Yes, 4 wheels will happen again. But like you said, I couldn't justify getting myself a man's quad and my see my kids spend another summer not riding something their size. I'll bet by 2019 I'm in the saddle again ATV style.

Thanks SamUK. I am also happy that they are learning to use a manual transmission - or at least one that you shift manually. To me this concept is useful beyond powersports. And...it will prepare them for foot shift quads in the future...like a TRX90X or TRX250X...300X, 400X whatever lands in the garage, or maybe even just a old foot shift Rancher/Foreman.

Ha! Yep, that was also my thread, because a week before we bought this 70 I bought a 50 and shared it on here. I'm glad you shared that story because I immediately checked the chain tension on the 50 after you made that commend and it had twice the acceptable freeplay.

Thanks alloutdoors, and yes...I believe that was in August. That was a crummy time at my last job - promises not kept, etc. It's in the past. I've got a fantastic job now - switched in November - and as we started the new year, making plans and $ goals with the wife, we both decided/agreed upon $2000K could be "invested" in powersports for this year. So I did my research and came to the conclusion that:
1. I could get myself a nice used 400EX or 300EX for myself, or...
2. My kids could get maximum fun and I could get maximum value out of two used Honda dirt bikes in good condition. So far it's proving to be true. I spent $1K on each bike.

Too bad the dang TRX90 quads hold their value so well. I swear if it's in good enough condition to buy, it's still worth $2K here in AZ or in Utah.

Sounds awesome! Dad of the year for you :)
Thanks! I admit I still have the "sickness" and I look every day at daddy-sized machines, but that'll come in good time. It's tremendously fun/satisfying to watch these boys ride and operate the machines. They do it so well after just a few weeks.

My first motorcycle was a 1972 SL 70. The same engine in your 70!
MC , my first was the CT70 4 speed clutch , and I am pretty sure it was a 72 , I was jealous of the SL looked so much cooler , but glad I was street legal and rode mine on the street ----did the 70's also come as a CL (enduro) , like the 100's did , the 100's had CB = street , CL = street legal / enduro and SL = moto-cross style

I agree with Fish, look into a chain protector. Or, invest in a couple of DID chains, you know a DID ain’t breaking anytime soon! :)

I've seen so many people reference DID chains. I'll have to upgrade soon. Yesterday my 11-year-old and I went on a 2.5 hour trail ride. When we got back we checked everything out, and set the chain freeplay on both bikes to the correct amount.

Inused to ride motorbike trials, chain and sprocket condition was an all important thing. Renthal chainwheels and a DID chain are the best money can buy. Nowadays there a damn sight cheaper too.
Don’t be swayed into thinking an ‘o-ring’ chain will be better, they last about the same amount of time, but DO last longer if you ride sand.

You probably already know but make sure you fit the quick link retaining clip the right way around, if you don’t know there are tutorials on YouTube :)
