Well after riding my stock 90 300fw (blue) for some 22 years I've decided to add a few upgrades to it
Started by changing to Cyclone 12" aluminum rims (12x8&12x6) and a set of 25" Kenda Executioner tires
Now I'm kinda looking to see if there's a set of gears for the transfer case or one of the diff's to make all 4 wheels rotate the same speed
Yesterday I tore into the rear drum brake and bearing
What a mess!!! ?
The brake had to usual crap in it from a rotted vent line but the bearing was absolute Junk
Seems somewhere before I got it the axle got put in backwards, its almost the same except the right side has that spot the bearing rides on vs. splines all the way down
Missed UPS yesterday but he'll be back soon today, then I'll have the kit to change my front brakes to disc and get rid of those damn drum brakes
Also ordered a eBay front master cylinder that should get here today
Hopefully it works good, it has the micro switch on it I think although I don't intend to add a brake light, my original mc seems to work but has a screw broke off in the reservoir cap
I have a mill but eyes are to bad to line a screw that small up anymore and the new one was cheap enough

That's all the major changes im doing to it for now,
I also have a steering stem bushing coming
Went with a polyethylene bush this time
What was Honda thinking with that rubber bushing up top! ?

The only other thing I gotta do is figure out how to mount a winch on the front of it
Seems most winches I've seen pix of on 300's are mounted behind the front bumper on the support arms (?)
Anybody found a better way to mount them???
Well speaking of the 300...... Don't guess that rear axles gonna put itself back in so time to get on it again while I watch for UPS to bring me more parts! ?

I'll see if I can post pix but using a phone so not sure
More later........

In one of the many 300 threads the gear ratio difference between front and rear diffs is listed, it’s a very small difference. I run equal sized tyres all round, as do many other folks around the world with no issues.
I’ve looked at those eBay MC’s in the past, I’ll be interested to hear your feedback on those once you have it fitted, I used a larger foreman 500 MC in the end.

What issue were you having with uploading pics? I’m no tech expert but may be able to help.

Well caught UPS today and got my disc brake kit and Chinese mc
Finished getting the rear back together then fitted the disc kit on
Everything went together without any issues till I tried to bleed the brakes
Not sure what's up but when I pull the brake lever it goes to the bar and I have to pump it two or three times to get it pumped up enough to stop

I'll go back out tomorrow and try bleeding them again
Hopefully its just air trapped in the lines somewhere but I'll know more tomorrow
It started raining as it got toward dark so seemed like a good place to quit
I do think they will work nice once I get em bled out all the way
BUT....... For now.......

Hi Sam. ?
Yea I've been told I could run 25's all the way around without hurting anything but I ride around town probably more than I do off road so I'm worried about tearing a diff up due to unequal tire speed
In hindsight I guess I could have bought 26's for the rear and 25's on front but to late now, they bought, mounted and stayin!!!

So far the mc seems ok but I'm still trying to bleed the system
I'll know more tomorrow if it quits raining by then
All this rain should make the atv park a mess and perfect to try out the new tires. ?

On trying to upload pix I can get to the screen to manage pix but after I "upload" the file from phone it only gives me a close screen and none of the pix have come up yet
Not sure where they went but not on board
Could be because I'm using a windows phone instead of PC but ya know.....
Any info on how to load pix from phone is appreciated
Thaks

When you think of the size difference remember to halve it, the difference is only 1” from stock on the front. I’ve never heard of a front diff breaking, they seem to be super strong, even the guys running 34’s in crazy deep mud manage to keep the fronts in good shape.

To breed the system I stood my 300 up on end and levelled the MC up on the bars, just remember to put the MC kid back on before dropping it back down haha.

Uploading pics...

I use an iPhone so not sure if things are different, here’s how I do it with a few pics..

Click on the attachment (paper clip) icon, you should get 5 icons to attach 5 pics, click it and select your photo from library or wherever they are stored, attach all your photos you wish to upload and then select ‘upload’, it will upload all photos at the same time. Once they are uploaded you will see them below highlites in red, once you see that close the window, top right, then finish your thread and post.

You are going to have to build your own winch plate , as there are no sources to buy a pre-fab-ed 1st generation 300 winch plate ----- it looks like crap and some say it will pull the rack off the bike , but I have had a winch mounted on the top the front rack of a 88 and seen others do it , nothing ever happened to it , usually all you need is a nudge

I got a1st gen winch plate project laying on a table , everything is there from the winch to the fairlead and solenoid , my blue 300 is wired from the battery to the front and has the switch mounted on the bar , and the plate is about 1/2 way thought out and built , need to get that project finished

Are you a welder , take a winch plate project on and show me the way !

Well finished up the blue (90) 300 today
Its my primary bike I use 99% of the time and best kept

Got the new disc & mc bled out today
Turns out ya gotta push the handle forward a hair when bleeding it sometimes
Other than that the china mc seems to work fine
Don't care for the mirror mount on it but that won't hurt anything

The disc kit I used is a "Quadrax" off eBay for $239(?)
There's probably better or cheaper kits out there but I found that one
Its a decent setup with dual piston calipers so no sliders to freeze up!!!
Overall the disc and mc seem to work good

Put a new polyethylene steering stem bushing in, added some silicone grease before installing it and it turns smooth as butter
I hate those OEM rubber bushings, damn things seem to always stick or squeak!!! ?

Called the place I bought my 25's from
I can buy 2 more 26-10-12's for another $176.85 (cause money grows on trees and all)
Oh Well, I can use the rear 25's I have now on my 2wd as soon as I come up with a set of 12" rear rims
That or a full set for the red 4wd, either way I'd like to change em since I do ride on the road so much with that one
At least till I get the 2wd going again

Gotta get 1" spacers for rear wheels to get my stance right again, disc kit had spacers in it to clear everything

THEN....... Its time to start on the 2wd and get it going again
Gotta get a rear axle & hubs for it and a cdi bow
Clean the carb & tanks and it'll be going agin

Gonna stop and see my Uncle when I pass through Arkansas in a month or so, he has 2 acres of 2&3 wheelers so maybe he'll have the racks and bumper to the red 4wd
Be nice to get em all 4 running again
Been awhile

As for the winch
I actually have a huge lathe, Bridgeport mill, mig, tig & stick welders in the garage
BUT...... Damn cancer ate my nose and surgeries to rebuild it made it so I can't put a hood on
Had to quit working on guns because of not being able to see or weld
Oh Well, ain't had a winch for this long, I'll worry about that more later on although id love to build something to mount my winch behind the front bumper
It almost fits just not quite with the grill in

Well this got long so that's all for now
At least for the moment. ??
