Hey guys,

Have what might be a silly question but I can't seem to find the answer so here goes. Got a 1997 Honda Fourtrax 300 4x4 and went to replace the air filter. Got the recommended UNI from their online catalog, NU-4119ST. When changing it out ran into a slight problem. The filter that was on it was a uni also but looks like it wasnt the recommend one I bought and there is no original cage (air body cleaner), it just has what looks like a large spring inside it. I thought not really a big deal and I took that out and it fit in the new one I bought, I plugged the hole in the end of the new filter with a bolt as its all I could find (old filter didnt have a hole). Problem is when I tried to put the new filter on the inlet hole it screws on seems to be a little larger than the one I took off (probably to fit over the original cage). I can tighten it down but it warps some and just doesn't seem like it will stay on with all the bumps and vibrations of being on a trail. Looked at getting a new cage but I couldnt find an aftermarket and the OEM is $70 which just seems ridiculous.

So, my question is, is there an alternative filter that will work without the original cage? Figured someone else around here as run into this before me.

Thanks for the help guys!

The OEM filter cage fits inside the rubber inlet boot to the carb, it enables the filter to be secured tightly.

I've never seen a spring inside a uni filter but I have seen them used in other filter applications. You could use it I'm sure, you'll just need a small piece of 1 1/2" pvc pipe to sit inside the inlet hose so you can fasten the filter to the boot securely

I found a brand new uni filter installed on my project and traded it for the OEM setup. I didn’t like it mainly cuz ima OEM guy.
The Uni didn’t use the filter sleeve just the spring to keep it from collapsing, but it fit right onto the air box boot no problem

Did you already have the cage or did you have to purchase it? I would be fine using the OEM setup but cant seem to find the cage for a reasonable price.

Hmm, I figured that they had to have one but have no idea which filter it would be as the UNI catalog just references the one I have.

If anyone has an idea of what part number would be a direct replacement, I'd sure appreciate it.
