I'm looking at a used 2013 Rancher 4x4. Pics look new and owner said they barely used it and probably only put 3 tanks of gas through it. If this is the case, then it has spent a lot of time not being used which gives me a little concern since I am under the impression it isn't really good to let these sit for long periods of time. He is asking $5100. What do y'all think? Do my concerns about it sitting too long have merit, and is the price fair?

Not sure where you are and the market, but here in the Midwest and looking South, Nashville, etc., that would be a crazy high number. I'm well aware of a couple units around the Midwest closer to 4K with low hours, so unless it has plenty of extras or something unique, the price is too high...

Thanks, I was kind of thinking the price was a little high since new is about $6400, but I am only just beginning my research into getting an ATV, so I appreciate the advice. I'm in TX by the way.

Be patience and start looking on craigslist within a 150 mile radius. I'm confident you will find someone who purchase on an impulse and find a smoking deal, so have money ready to go and make it happen. Personally, I would look at units 2007 and newer as they have fuel injection vs. carbs and I would not touch anything with a snorkel on it as well, again my opinion/preference....

Yep, I disqualify anything with a snorkel immediately.

Brand new I assume? Are dealers able to come off of price that much or were there other unusual circumstances that got it down to that?

Yikes. That's super high for even a new machine.

Dealers around here had new 420 footshifts for $4399 last year. I don't think they're much higher than that now.

If I were getting a 420 I would look for an 07-13. The newer ones have the same engine but are in a bigger frame. The only benefit of the later ones is a better rear end.

You could get an old body style 420 and swap in a later rear end to get the fully tubed design, or you could just buy a Foreman and call it a day. LOL

No it was the FM, which is 4x4. I had an 08 420 FM for sale at about the same time and seeing them that cheap new put a dent in my ego on my asking price.

Might have been end of the model year sale, but they had new ones for $4399 a year or two ago.

$5K plus for a used 6 year old Rancher is going full retard.

Don't remember if it was Honda of Forrest City, Honda of Russleville, or Honda of Searcy (Sunrise). I follow all 3 on bootface.

I rebuilt that 08 down to the crank for my brother in law, who found out he was expecting a kid while I was doing the build, so he couldn't afford to buy it.

I figured it was a $2800-3K bike easily, and then saw new FM's for $4399. I ended up getting $2250 for it, which was about $250 less than I had in it after a new rear end, new engine, etc. I would have been better off parting it out.

I got my 09 Foreman 500 new for $4999 OTD at Honda of Forrest City. They gouge you horribly on parts and service but from time to time they have good sales when they need to move inventory.
