how can i adjust this without tearing apart
You can't adjust it with it apart, anyway. It has to be together. The adjusting screw is on the front of the engine.

To adjust the clutch free play, loosen the locknut and slowly turn the adjusting screw counterclockwise until you feel resistance. Now, turn the adjusting screw clockwise 1/4 turn. Hold the adjusting screw to keep it from turning while you tighten the locknut down.

how to do this without tearing it apart
on the front side of the motor..you will see a rather large nut..and a screw in the middle of it, loosen the nut..turn the center screw counter clock wise until you feal restance, then turn the screw...while holding the nut in one place..turn the center screw 1/4 turn clock wise..tighten the lock nut back down while holding the center screw.
