Hey I wanted to show members what they can find in a random carb on a machine that won’t idle! You gotta take the carb apart to clean it—and it’s so easy

I found particles in the bowl and in the starter? jet passage. Lookit.
How did those chunks get in the jet passage— there’s a plug and jet on the bowl side?!

I have never worked on this 99 TRX300 before—shop quad that has always run flawlessly. Sat for a few weeks and then one day the float needle stuck open and drained out all over my shop floor. Checked the petcock screen (clean), refilled the tank. But the quad would idle under choke but wouldn’t run. Now I’m confident I can get it running well again

the 450es carburetor, had a small mineral deposit i couldnt see, with out a magnifying glass, that wouldnt let the needle seat in the float bowl. i can only speculate that using ethanol gas let minerals into the carburetor. not the same as you found, but still a problem..

This quad would instantly die with throttle input.
I found the vacuum piston stuck in the down position because old fuel and dirt cemented it in place. It wasn’t getting fuel because the main jet needle wasn’t moving

I also purged the primer circuit with alcohol.

I fill the cleaned bowl with alcohol and then push the bulb several times until I’m confident the bowl channel is clean.

Then I refill the bowl and attach to main body. I lock the throttle open with a piece of plastic, retract the vacuum piston and work the bulb.

The fluid in the bowl will squirt out thru a tiny hole on the inside of a little brass stem on the intake side of the carb throat. At first it might dribble into the carb throat but sometimes I can get the primer to shoot eight feet. others create a fog which I think is better

i like that as it makes me think i need that primer function. also in the 2nd picture, i thought that screw at the bottom was just a drain screw.. that may mean i am missing an important function, of the carb i got.. it wouldnt be the 1st time i was missing an important function :grin
just means i gotta learn more. thanks

most screws at the bottom of the float bowl are for draining the carbs bowl, thats all I know them for ??.
