Hello everyone, I have clunk sound when decelerating at speed....sounds like rock hitting frame not sure how else to explain sound. Oil level is good, it's accelerate perfect, shifts as it should but get up up to 3rd or more so it has speed then let off to slow down makes a clunk. Now if I ease off throttle slowly no issues or let off going up hill..feels/sounds like (hard to tell) mid chassis/front of motor area.

Thanks in advance

Diagnosing while reading is pretty tuff -----three things come to mind that clunk , the one way bearing = does the kick starter work like it is suppose to ----- the u-joint of the rear drive shaft or the rear diff = how's the oil in the rear diff ----jack the wheels off the ground and run it

Yes I know hard to do, harder to explain. Kick starter good, oil levels fine, rear differential good (not that type of sound)

Almost sound like it binds and skips a tooth but only under deceleration but if it was binding no matter what gear I'm in it should do it it really doesn't matter what gear I'm in the only reason I say 3rd and above is cuz that's the only time I have a lot of speed on right

could be the splines of the driveshafts , either front or rear , I have stripped them out many times now on 300s and 450s ------ noise are tricky some times , you think for sure it is coming from the rear and it is the front , try to isolate the sound by jacking all 4 wheels off the ground and have someone work the throttle while you move around and listen for that sound

Okay have an update I decided to do some yard work with it kind of feel it out so I had this trailer and I loaded it with stone and decided to drive it around. 1st gear no problem 2nd gear no problem give it plenty of gas decelerate it no issues. Soon as I emptied it pull it around 1st 2nd 3rd gear gave it some good gas let off and then it happened again so obviously is 3rd gear and higher

How about swing arm bearings, are they worn or loose?

Maybe upload a video to YouTube and post the link here, that would aid diagnosis dramatically :)

I heard your clunk , I have many , many hours on a slew of different 300's and never heard that one before ---think if it were a swing arm bearing it would do it a lot more , sound like I heard it one time like you say at 14 seconds

I'd try to jack it off the wheels like fishfiles mentioned. Try to repeat the throttling you usually do and see if it's worse. Also, might as well film that as well, lets just hope it doesn't end up on a Fail video! <img src="http://www.hondaatvforums.net/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Smile"

As it only happens 3rd gear and higher might be risky and I would not think it will happen without a load but hey....its Friday and I have beer what could go wrong?
