Hey whats up? I got a 99 fourtrax 300 2" lift snorkled on 26" vampires. I have rode my bike real hard for about three years now. Just replace carb. , all bearings, front diff, rear swing arm, drive shaft. Basically everything that i could just trying to update it and refresh everthing. Now my rear diff is making noises, so i pull the plug to find hand full of metal and teeth and metal shavings! fun!

Now im just trying to figure the best route from here. Prices on a new ring and pinion set, maybe swap the rear end for something else. Im not sure just want to get some feedback and some ideas. I love my bike! i told myself when i bought it when it came down to this point, that it want to go bigger and better. So i want to look at beefing every thing up. Possible gear reductions so i can turn a larger more agressive tire. Look at stroking the motor. Would love to be able to get some more lift out of it. Thats the only thing i have not enjoyed about my little 300 is the lack of ground clearance....and the all time 4x4...but thats an easy fix!

Thank you for your time!

i can tell you this..the prices on a ring gear..pinion gear..wont come cheap !..just those two alone will set you back about 500 or 600 bucks if you buy them new from a dealer..if your thinking of replacing the whole rear end..think again..that will run you about $ 1200.00 from the dealer..this is just for the diff !...now..be fair warned..and i can't stress this enough..everyone wants to lift thier bikes for more ground clearance..only problem i know of..when they do this..they are putting alot more stress on thier cv joints on the front..and as for putting larger tires on thier bikes..this puts alot of stress on the ring gear, pinion gear, and bearings..soo..up to you on that choice..bottom line is..how much time and money you got to replace these high dollar pieces when they break ?..lol.

I've heard of people using the Fourtrax 350 rear ends in the Fourtrax 300, but there's some fab work that you have to do and I don't know what all that involves. That would be an improvement, though, once you got it in, because they hold up a lot better.

for one..the sway arm is totally different..the shocks on the 350's are in a different place..you have 2 on the 350 rear axle tubbing..only one on the 300...it will take alot of fab work to make an old 350 work on a 300 frame...with a good wire welder..the right parts..and some thinking..lol..it can be done..i've studied this for awhile...and i really wouldn't want to have to fab this make over...lol..it sure won't be easy..thats for sure.

Some people are using the 250 Big Red rear end, too, but I don't know what all that would involve, either.

Well its good to know that there is some options as far as rear end swaps. Ill have to do some looking. If any one knows of some links with the 350 swap info on it let me know. As far as the mods just from what yall have supplied im not all that worried about it. I hve a back ground in welding and fab. Im a mini trucker at heart...getting back to my country roots. So i think if we i can build full frames for truck daily driven on the road...i should be able to handle a few brackets and shock mounts. Just need to find some info geometry and what not. But keep the info coming guys. And by the way did warn discontinue the 4-2-4 for this bike? having just a little trouble locating them. All time 4x4 has its down fall!

I don't know of any links, but the guys over on the High Lifter forums can probably help you with the 350 swap. I think some of those guys have the Fourtrax 350 rear end and the 250 Big Red rear end. If you go over there, don't forget to come back, though. LOL.

Yeah, Warn discontinued the 4-2-4 Select, but you can find them on Ebay, sometimes.
