I've got a 99' 300 FW 4x4 that I've worked on off and on for a while now. Recently, I'm having a new issue with it, when I turn the key on, all of the lights will come on, then when I press the start button, there is a click then the lights turn-off and it won't start. I can turn the key off and on after this and the lights will stay off, but if I disconnect the fuses, let it sit, then reconnect the fuses the lights will come back on and the same thing will happen.

In the past year, I've changed the Front Lights, battery, regulator, selanoid and starter. I wonder if it is the CDI, but this doesn't seem like an issue it would cause. I've traced the wire harness for shorts and checks all grounds, nothing seems to be amiss there.

Thoughts???

Water in plugs or a corroded terminal within a plug maybe? Even if you used dielectric grease, condensation will still form over time within a sealed plug/socket.

I only mention these issues assuming you ride swamps, your name kinda gave me a hint lol

Well, I started at the battery cables from the list of suggestions, didn't realize it until I looked, but the underside of the positive cable had some significant rust bloom. The tops of the connectors look fine, so that didn't even cross my mind.

Wire brushed it clean, sprayed and wiped a little WD-40 on in the process and she's cranking right back up, no issues.

On a side note and question, the solenoid is NOT OEM. I forgot the manufacturer, but I've been running it for about 6 months with no issues. Has anyone had long term luck with other than OEM solenoids on these little tanks of fourwheelers?

Glad ya got it going at no cost! An aftermarket solenoid generally means china knockoff garbage dumped here to destroy the living standards of those who are fooled by low price. If you got 6 months out of it so far you might be among one-in-10,000 buyers having had that much luck with one. I'd buy a used OEM (or two, they are dirt cheap shipped) from powersportsnation, swap one on before that one sticks and ruins other expensive parts... smile and live happily ever after!
