I have a 1998 300EX and i have been having some issues when i increase the throttle. It cranks up just fine and when you first start to go, it does fine... but when you start to give it more gas it starts to throttle way back, and you have to release the throttle to get it to start going normally again. I changed out the metal gas tank with a plastic one because it was starting to get a good bit of rust, and i replaced the petcock and cleaned out the fuel tube. Is there anything else i need to clean out to get it running correctly again? I looked inside the carb and it looked clean, but i didnt really take it apart being as i dont know how and dont want to tear it up, could there be something stuck in there i cant see? thanks for the help!

Welcome to the forums!! I would remove the carb. lip it over remove the 4 phillips head screws remove the slotted jet that is recessed in the lower hole and clean it , that is probably the issue. that is the slow jet , the fuel bowl will only go on one way so don't worry to much about how it went on. the taller jet is the main jet by the way.

ur name rusty now !!!!

rust is BADDD ! can go through in tank filter w/o even slowing down !! external (in line) filter is a must , on older jewels. prolly float needle plugged. amazing what can give big probs. can b so tiny. if use lots o caution you prolly can remove bowl on carb. and clean b 4 it goes deeper in carb. be sure not to change float setting , remove and reassemble float GENTLY w/o force . can b fixed easier than it sounds. DONT B SCARED or distracted when doing repairs on carbs. wont have to remove any adj. (air or gas) screws to clean needle seat.
