A used carb for a 98-00 is $100, but a used carb for a 02-04 is only $57.

Are they interchangeable?

Different part numbers, but they look almost exactly the same with the exception of the main fuel intake sticking straight out vs. 90 deg elbow...

Any thoughts??

Thanks!!

don't know if they are interchangeable ?, but just spend the money, get the correct carb, and not worry about it not working. I just don't understand folks when it comes to trying to save a few bucks where its most important to have the correct part ! :).

in all my years of working on atvs ( roughly 25 ! ) I have not ran across many carbs that I could not clean/rebuild..and make them run on the atv?!. they had to be pretty bad for me to put another carb on it ?, and if that was the case ?, I would make sure to get the correct year/make/model carb that fits it. no reason to gamble on something like the correct carb :).

I have not torn the carb apart, but...the exterior looks pretty bad. I may just buy a 'B' gasket kit and try to rebuild. They only had one used one on powersport nation (98-00) and it looked really rough. The 02-04 looked alot cleaner.

On a side note I had a kawasaki bayou one time that the carb was not rebuildable. The main jet had been corroded around the threads of the jet housing (aluminum portion) about 1/2" up from the pickup. completely gone on about 1/3 of the threads. It ran pretty rich... I guess I could have built up the housing with JB Weld, but I was sick of messing with it. Sold it for what I had in it.

Thanks for the input!

cool. buy a shindy carb kit off ebay, they are cheap !. for what you will spend on every piece from honda ?, you can get ( mostly ) the whole rebuild kit to rebuild your carb, and it will run like new. unless your old carb is corroded really bad ?, then they can be rebuilt !!!.
