97 recon throttle cable replacement

Having some issues with a replacement throttle cable on my 97 recon. Cable that was originally on the bike when I bought it was all kinds of rigged, so I bought a motion pro replacement from bike bandits and now that it’s finally here I find it’s either not the correct cable or maybe the older recons had a different cable but the actual mounting cap on the replacement cable is smaller than required cap for the top of the carb. Any input would be greatly appreciated, just getting this cable has been a nightmare in the first place and now it not fitting is making it that much better!

Thanks in advance

Are you certain it is a stock carb that is on it?
that i am not sure. bought the bike and a parts bike, the carb on the good bike and parts bike are the same, also came with a new in package carb that i know is aftermarket. also have my friends 2013 recon in my garage and the carbs are indeed different.

EDIT

as it turns out i believe the good carbs i have are aftermarket. the bad carb on my parts engine is the correct carb for the replacement cables. just need to be pointed in the correct direction for a cable now

so it sounds to me like the aftermarket carbs are no compatible with the motion pro and stock throttle cables. can you switch the caps from the aftermarket carbs onto the motion pro cable? that seems like option 1.

But option 2 and the one I would do, since you have an OEM carb, is rebuild that and use with your new throttle cable. then you know you are using a genuine carb and it works with stock spec cables going forward.
i did attempt to change the caps but the male/female portions are different. i may pull the old carb off the parts engine and see what can be done. parts bike sat up outside for who knows how long and no lid on airbox, but somehow no water was in engine, that being said the slide in the old carb is frozen in place with a throttle cable attached, tried penetrating oils and heat and it hasnt moved
