My dad has a 97 fourtrax 300 4x2. Recently it has started sputtering, it will run fine for a while before it starts the sputter. If you let the bike sit and cool off it will run fine again. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this and how to fix it. Any information would be appreciated.

Clean the carb out really good.

I agree with Billy. Try cleaning the carb first. Also, make sure the fuel cut off valve on the fuel tank isn't about stopped up. Check the screen in the bottom of the cut off valve and check the hose going to the carb and make sure it's not about stopped up.
