Hey guys, i'm new to the forum i hope you guys can give me some help here, i have a 94 honda atv fourtrak 300cc 4x4 that for some reason within in the last year or so is starting to not run correctly. I have own it since it was brand new. It sat for nearly a year under a tarp until about 1+ years ago, i've never had any trouble from it until now, its running fine for those 1+ years. It will start but not from the battery, i have to kick start it, will only start if its being choked, but quits after being warmed up, i have to give it a little bit of gas in order for it to stay running, and even still, it splits and splutters until i give i more gas, after about 1/3 of the throttle it runs just fine, but it will not run on idle, i think i may have got the throttle (black knob) on the carb out of adjustment but it was the only way i could get it to run a while back, i don't know if there's something in the carb itself that's stopped up or bad gas, the carb has never been taken off or anything besides the throttle knob messed with. The only way i can keep it running when the choke is off is to give it some gas, whenever i let it try to idle on its own, it justs dies. I have installed a brand new air-filter and also put some carb cleaner/gas treatment in the gas tank and ran most of it thru but nothing has changed. Also i wanted to mention about the battery, could this me part of the trouble? I try to start it with the electric start but all it does is making a buzzing sound from the battery compartment. It starts just fine from kick starting as long as i give it gas or choke it (until its warmed up). Also when it is running, with the gas under 1/3 open with the headlights on, they do dim when its sputtering. Whenever i open up the throttle past 1/3 or so the thing runs just great, no sputtering , nothing. Does anyone have a any suggestions on what my problem/s are, any help would be great.
Thanks, cve312

You need to charge your battery and clean the terminals and cables good. It's possible that you need a new battery if it won't start after charging it.

You need to pull the carb off and take it apart and clean it good. That black knob is just the idle adjustment screw. After an ATV sits for a long time with out running it, the carb will usually need to be cleaned.

Welcome to the forums...
I would say you will need to remove the carb find a good clean area to work on I suggest putting an old towl down incase you drop anything it won't bounce away into oblivion. lol, you problem is going to be in the slow jet or Idle circuit I would suggest a good carb kit and just completely go through the whole carb that should cure the old gal's issues. As far as the battery saarting is concerned these batteries if not used regularly won't survive. You may can try charging it on a trickle charge for one over night time frame and see what it does but I think you are going to have to replace it.
