I have a 94 and a 02 model 300ex. Does anyone know if the engine in the 94 is the same as the 02? I have a 01-06 service manual I downloaded and need to rebuild the engine in my 94 model. All appears to be the same by the naked eye.

My 94 has been upgraded to a 330 by previous owner but it is a smoker now. No mosquito problems while riding this thing. It still runs good but will foul the plug after about 15 minutes of riding. Also any advice as I embarq on this rebuild would be greatly appreciated.

doing a top end job is easy..pull the rocker box off..remove the cam..tie a piece of wire around your timming chain..this will keep it falling down in the lower engine....if it does..at least you can pull it back out..pull your cylinder..after you get new rings..and gaskets..hone your cylinder out..put new rings on..probally wouldnt hurt to replace your valve steam guides..if you buy a top end kit..it will come with it..after you get it all back together..don't run your bike wide open for the first hour or so..give the ring's time to seat in the cylinder.this should be all you need to do.

I've found tons of top end gasket kits on ebay but can't find new rings. It is supposedly a 330 but I don't know how to tell for sure other than I can tell the engine has been apart because they used silicon which you never see factory. Anyone know where I'd look for rings for a 330 other than buying a whole new big bore kit for $260?

try bikebandit.com..but..if it were me..i would take the cylinder to the honda dealer..let them mic it..they probally can tell you what size rings you need...and never use silicon on a top end..it won't hold very long.

The problem that I've had with silicone is that the excess squeezes out on the inside of the engine and can break loose and stop your oil pump up because of the rubbery nature. I learned that the hard way. I won't use anything but Hondabond. When Hondabond dries, it's not as rubbery as silicone and it holds up real well.
