Non-OEM carb, Non-OEM parts in the carb, pilot screw & idle speed adjustment, leaking manifold/carb boot, valves lashed too tight, compression very low, timing chain jumped a tooth, pilot jet circuit in the carb is clogged, vent hoses on carb clogged or connected together, snorkel project gone sour, etc.

Tell us more about the bike and its history. Did you just buy it, or have you owned it a long time? Are there any aftermarket parts on it? Has it been well-maintained? Is it a mud-bike? Snorkelled?

It was given to me it hit a tree in 2009 and wouldn't start after I've got it started it just won't idle I don't know much about it's history I actually don't know much about mechanical stuff lol I'm gonna go spray the tubes and see if there is a leak

how does spark look at the plug< good and strong, after hitting a tree, it could have damaged some wires, and could be ANY where, but follow the mian one's to things and look for damages
the CDI could be damaged

if compression is low, that could be a issue?
have you checked compression?
air filter is free flowing, and clean?
these are OLDER atv's so odds of one having a LOT of miles or hours is HIGH, so compression is a part you need to know to find what's wrong IMO
as if its super low, your wasting time on other things
how does the oil look too, clean, is it full of any fuel?

It’s not been mentioned yet but it’s a worthy call... Check the rubber inlet boot (carb to engine) if this was hardened (which most are) before the crash it may have cracked on impact.

I can’t give anymore advice other than what has been said above.

you Stated RIGHT HERE, " IT hit a tree IN 2009"
SO
DID IT A TREE OR not
as if it did it could be part of the issue here!

you say it starts with choke on and then dies when you take it off, are you getting Vapor lock
are you sure the fuel is flowing WELL< from tank to carb?
no clogged up peacock or fuel lines, they all age and that ethanol fuel will clog them up,
NOW a loaded question did you actually CLEAN the fuel tank, or just add fresh fuel to it
as if the tabnk was dirty, and you cleaned the carb, and ADDED fresh fuel, you most likl;ey have a dirty carb again
if you WISH to rule things out'
MY suggestions are THIS
drain tank
CLEAN tank, , MAKE sure fuel flows good out of peacock
REPLACE fuel lines from tank to carb(yellow tygon fuel line ONLY, as its the ONLY line approved for ethanol fuel)
then RE clean carb\ and HOW are you cleaning carb? are you actually cleaning or spraying with carb cleaner(and yes you replaced carb, BUT was it a OEM carb or cheap knock off china special?)
and again IF you DO NOT rule things out in THIS order, your wasting your time, a till you KNOW tank is clean, fuel line and peacock are clean, and CARB is clean, your spinning your wheels
as a dirty tank can make a dirty carb AS SOON as you clean it!
IF the carb you got is a CHEAP China Special, maybe BUY a rebuild kit for the OLD OEM one and rebuild it, make sure all passages are CLEAN and NO varnish build up in them

after doing THIS< you have ruled out fuel and carb issue's till then, your wasting time HOPING to get LUCKY!
clean tank, clean peacock, clean line, clean carb, NEW FRESH FUEL< rules ALL these things out
NOT knowing 100% they are, any one or all can be the problem still!
after that it can be CDI< compression, jumped timing and so on!
but till you know for sure the above is done and done correctly, you are NOT fixing your guessing!

Welcome to the forums , glad you got it fixed , or did you , sounds like it back fire now , back firing when it happens to me is usually water in the fuel or a dirty carb , timing chain worn out , out of timing or a valve problem , etc , etc
