Top end as a result of swimming? Or does it need a top end from age and normal wear? If the former, you will likely need to drive into the engine and get it all clean before replacing the top end and considering it done, because there will be gremlins (sand/silt) all in the block to wreak havoc downstream.

Bent a valve swapped out topend with whwad I was told was a good jug pistinrings and head now it smokes so ready to wash my hands with it...
