Welcome to the forums. If one rear tire is spinning and the other isn't, your hub splines are stripped on the side that isn't spinning.

it's not. park it on level ground, loosen the lug nuts, jack the rear up, take the tire off that isnt spinning, take the cotter pin out loosen the casle nut, (may take an impact wrench), then slide the hub off. Inspect the splines on the axle for wear and tear. If they're ok, regrease them before you slide the new hub on. do yourself a favor and order a hub with the lug studs already pressed in. Tim.

The only difference in the axle for any year, is that the earlier year axles had, either shorter hubs or longer hubs and I can't remember if the earlier ones had the short hubs or the long hubs. If you have to buy the axle and both hubs, it wouldn't matter which year, but if you just buy the one hub you will have to know which years will fit. Maybe Shadetree can remember which years used the short hubs and which years use the long hubs.

ten four. do yall know why it is hard to shift sometimes. low oil maybe?
Make sure the oil level is correct and you can try adjusting the clutch free play.

how hard is it to adjust the clutch free play
Find the adjusting screw on the right side of the engine. The adjusting screw takes a flat screwdriver and it has a locknut on it, I believe 14mm.

To adjust, loosen the locknut and slowly turn the adjusting screw counterclockwise until you feel resistance. Turn the adjusting screw clockwise 1/4 turn. Now, hold the adjusting screw while tightening the locknut back down.

what years will work with the 88
the early years on trx300's used the long hubs..they changed the wheel hubs lenght's in the first of the '90's..like '90-'94 or so..if your not sure which one you need..you may be better off just getting the whole axle and both hubs..inspect your axle..see how bad the splines are on it ?..it's probally about worn anyway.

I agree. I would say you will need a new axle anyway, if the hub is stripped. Usually it destroys the splines on the axle, too.

Atleast remove your axle and check the splines that ride inside your gear/pinion differential. I would imagine if your axle doesnt have splines on the ends it wouldnt have much left inside the differential. Depending on your recent repairs to the rear end, you may be up for a full rebuild. Lets hope not. I just finished putting a new axle in my 300. Easy as long as you dont remove the drum from the panel:redface:

if you are really strapped for cash you could always weld your hub to the axle.

bad idea to weld the right hub..you won't be able to remove the brake drum..not without grinding the weld off.

You can still change the brakes, though. You can slide the drum back enough to change the brakes, but you can't remove the drum all the way off the axle.

oh yea i totally agree. I dont believe in rigging things. But the same could be said about the left side hub i think. Doesnt the rear axle have to removed from left to right?

Yeah, if you weld the left hub, you can't get the axle out of the rear diff.
