Finally got the timing chain and clutch cover gasket. I didn't replace the rocker arm o-rings when I refreshed the top end on this motor, so I figured I should do it while I had the head cover off. I did them on my second motor and the dowel pins were tough but I got them fairly easy compared to this bastard. After a couple hours yesterday, I gave up and just swapped in the head cover from my other motor. I also broke a cam follower for the kick starter one of the 6 times I had to put the clutch cover on. I got to redo it that many times because I'm an idiot. I found two dowel pins on the ground that I thought came from my head cover. Turns out they were from the oil pump. Stupid dog knocked over my carefully stacked parts pile. Can't blame it all on the dog though....Twice, I forgot to put the clutch lever back in and didn't realize it until I was torquing the bolts down. The only good thing about it is I learned some tricks that will help if I ever do this job again. Like how the reverse stop spring/ shaft installs. The shaft kept coming out with the cover when removed. I finally figured out to hold a screwdriver on the shaft while removing the cover to keep it in place with its spring. I have a spare lower end so I was able to snag the kickstart follower cam I broke without robbing from my complete spare motor.
Before I put the airbox, fenders and racks back on I'm going to test/tune my spare carbs. I won't need them, and people pay stupid amounts of money to buy a carb that's clean and works right out of the box.
