I have an '87 TRX250x that has a geremlin I can't find.
First- the reverse switch is already bypassed.

Second- there is no key or ignition switch, i leave them loose for run and connect to kill.

Third- I replace my Kill switch(on the leftside handle bar) with an automotive rocker switch (and soldered and heat shinked the wires).

Know you know where I'm starting from. It will start up fine when its cold. then I can ride for a bit, then it'll die or I kill it via switch or accident.
Then will not start again (no spark) but sometimes if I let it sit it will fire.

Any help please, my only idea is the CDI box. Thanks

My guess would be the CDI or the ignition coil.

Coil getting hot and breaking down would be my guess.

Thank for the replys

Ya, I suspected all of the above. I checked the coil it seemed to be ok but... I will check again and then recheck. I will consult the manual on the stator and volt reg.
When we had it out last it was giving me trouble, amongst my fiddling I cut my make shift kill switch and it seemed to improve my odds but according to my brother did not fix it.
So I will add a factory kill switch to my grocery list.
Thanks for the help.

Did you check the coil after the ATV quit and wouldn't fire? If you check it when it's cold, it probably won't show as being bad.

Did you check the coil?

I checked the coil some where between it running and not running, a matter of about an hour and a half. Although to tell the truth I fell as though my voltmeter skills are questionable. Like I said I will recheck the coil. Thanks, that is a point.
