While I was waiting for the Hondabond on the rocker cover to cure I decided to drain the fuel tank, clean it out and put in a new fuel filter. Did so and its cranks fine and I hear the fuel pump running but its not getting to the carb. When I squirt a little gas into the venturi it fires right up. I didn't take the petcock apart as I couldn't find parts/gasket anywhere. But the bike was running when took it apart, so I don't think the screen in the petcock is plugged, and gas came out when I changed the filter. I'm thinking there is a procedure or "trick" to priming the pump. The manual is silent on the issue.

problem solved

Talked to Shadetree and the pump has to be primed by removing hose from carb and pouring gas into the pump until bubbles stop. Installed hose and bike fired right up!

Possibly your fuel lines have cracks in the ends and so air gets into the system
