Hello all,

I just bought an old 87 Fourtrax 250 for a few hundred bux and its in pretty good shape for its age but since its 22 years old it needs a couple things...

First on the list it to replace the torn universal boot between the output on the motor and the swing arm. I've never replaced this boot before and I'm sorta curious which method will be the easiest way. While looking things over I figured that there's 3 possible ways to do it. 1) is to remove the swing arm assy (good luck), 2) is to loosen or remove the motor (P.I.A), or 3) remove the output gear housing at from the motor (??) which seems to be the easies at this point but not sure if I wanna do that...

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Find yourself a service manual, that's the best thing you could do right now if you plan to be working on it yourself. Check ebay first [and also for all the other parts you might need] and then look at repairmanual.com or you could download a service manual from tradebits in .pdf format, but I would want a hard copy.

I've got a SM (climer) and have for years. Been there, done that. I just need to know whats the easiest way to replace just the boot.

It should be the same procedure as any other quad of 3 wheeler from those years. I'm just not sure if the spring loaded univeral will give me enough room to replace the boot without damaging it in the process??
