Bought this quad last week for a guy who hasn't used it in a few years. Said the carb just needs to be replaced. I got it to my shop and checked to see if there was spark and it had nothing. After a night if diagnosing I decided it was the cdi. The wires coming out of the cdi all have perfect connections. Black and red wire is getting voltage. Pulsar is also getting voltage. Ground is good. Black and white wire not grounded. And lastly the wire for the coil wasn't getting any signal. I replaced the cdi and it still doesn't have spark. I have checked everything and cannot seem to figure it out. Anyone got some advise?

Welcome to the forums!

If the neutral light is on, ignition switch is on and kill switch is in the run position, suspect either the exciter coil (part of the alternator) or the pulse generator. A decent multimeter with accurate resistance reading capabilities is needed to diagnose them. See the attached image (from section 15 of the Factory Service Manual) below for reference. Keep us posted if ya can.

We like to ogle pics of purdy vintage gals here. Got any of her you care to share?

Thanks for the reply. I will check out the resistance tonight and let you know. I also include some pictures of the quad after i put it back together. I will warn you thought, the plastics are rough. I do plan on painting the frame while I got the wiring torn apart and the plastics off.

Don’t buy Chinese or surprisingly cheap CDI’s, there junk, it’s common to see people buying them and they don’t work at all.
The same with carbs, your fat better off rebuilding your OEM carb.

Keep us posted how you get on :)
