I just bought this thing today. She starts up like a new bike and runs like a champ. Doesnt make any weird noises and the all the plastic is in great shape. But she is a smoker. When I got her home I rode her around the block once, got back to the house and the county boys were there trying to give me a check for all the mosquito spraying I was doing. The guy I bought her from swore that she did not burn a lot of oil. So where is the first place to take a look at to stop the smoke? Valves?? Rings??

Being it's an '85 model, I would just do a complete top end rebuild, piston, rings, and valve stem seals.

yup..i agree..i would do a top end rebuild...piston rings..valves..valve steam seal guides..you may or may not have to replace the piston ??..hard to say if your cylinder needs boring out..and go one next size bigger on the piston and rings. you wont know this until you tear it down and mic the cylinder.

Being that it's an '85, the cylinder is probably worn a lot. If I were rebuilding it, I would bore it and put new piston and rings in it. Also new valve stem seals.

Well, that is what I will do. Where do you guys recommend I look for a rebuild kit? Ive done some searching online and Im not having a whole lot of luck, except e-bay and he wants $160 bucks. Although his ad does say to send him the piston and he will square it away. What do you think about doing a carb rebuild too? Im thinking I might as well...it wouldnt hurt

Yeah, I would go ahead and rebuild the carb.

As far as where to get the parts for the rebuild, I don't really know the cheapest place. Since I usually have the cylinder bored, I take mine to my local Honda dealer and let them bore it and match the oversized piston and rings up for me. We all know that the dealer isn't the cheapest place, though. For other parts, I usually order them online.
