680 rincon tranny problems

i have a chance to buy an 07 rincon at an actual steal of a deal, but the only problem is that when you put the bike in gear it lunges as if it is in gear but no go. the owner says that he thinks the pump is bad but hes not sure and he has ridden this bike very hard 1257 miles and tranny not working just got rings put in and rear end is going out. if anyone has any ideas or had problems with an automatic like this let me know if it could be the pump.
