I have an 03 400ex and the front shocks are shot. My fourwheeler is alot lower than its supposed to be just because the shocks are getting so crappy. I want better shocks, so I was looking for some on ebay and I didn't know if 450r shocks would fit? I was looking at them because i know they would be better than regular 400ex shocks. I didn't know if my atv would sit weird or anything? And how do I know if i need a new rear shock? It seems fine but I just wondered.

Lift the back end of your quad up and drop it. Does it fall and settle smooth or is it a rough landing withsome bounce to it? The 450R rear shock is nothing impressive. I would personally see if the new YFZ450X shock will fit.

One the top side my buddy said you have to force them in. He said he grinded alittle of the eye of the shock but he said it was easy. I have a pair in the garage that I have not put on. I have been wanting to revalve them. Let me know how difficult it is. LOL!

Exactly. Where the top bolt goes through the hole, there is too much metal above the hole to fit in the 400ex shock mount. Just shave it down a bit so the shock will fit into the mount without hitting the frame.

A set of KFX450 Shocks will work... and they say that they are a better riding shock than any other OEM shock.
