i hear you can put the 450R front shocks on a trx400ex but will any year 450R shocks fit on my 1999 400ex. if so will they fit my stock a arms? will they still fit when i put +2+0 a arms on? what about the rear shock? i have also heard about people putting yfz front shocks on....some say there better some say the 450R shocks are better.
and if i make the swap do i have to send them off to be revalved and resprung of can a local atv shop or honda dealer do this??

You don't have to have them revalved. If you get standard travel +2 a arms then yes you can use them, if you go +2 long travel you will need longer shocks.

Agree^^^ I'm not sure about the 400EX but you may need a shock relocator kit inorder to keep the geometric angle of the shocks correct. I would contact Diamond J Customs and ask them. They specialize in shock conversion kits.

People slap the 450R shocks on 400's all day long. I have never heard of anyone using any adapters. I heard you do need to shave a tiny bit off the top of the shock so it clears the shock mount fully.

OK I wasn't sure about the 400s I know the 300s and 250s you have to relocate them the easiest thing to do is measure the shock height off the quad and compare if it's within an inch you will be fine but like I said I'm not familular with the 400 suspension or 450 suspension like red and some of the others here.

alright well Redracer seemed to be pretty confident that the shocks would fit but id like to maybe talk to that diamond j customs place that was mentioned just to be sure since its something they specialize in.
Not doubting you Redracer i just wanna be sure before i buy them.

Absolutely, I don't blame you... I sold my stock shocks to a guy with a 400 and that is the info I have received from him

450R shocks will bolt right up to a 400ex no problems.

Yeah they fit.Like they said you just have to take a grinder and shave a bit off of the top of the shock for it to clear the mount fully. It won't hurt anything.
