I think for Christmas I'm gonna either get a Lonestar Axle or get some front trx450r shocks and put triple rate springs on it. except the fact that the spring kit is $245! I might could get a pair of works triple rates it sure would be nice to have that rezzie though....thats why i like the 450r shocks.

I know what you mean, the LTR shocks are ungly too. But, the '05 and newer Z400 shocks are resivor shocks and a good upgrade over the stock 400ex ones, and they made them in red I think.

I wish i had the finds for triple rate elkas w/ rezzies. Maybe instead of modding out 450r shocks, I'll just ask for some Works Triple Rates. Does anyone know if long travel a arms are any count? i really dont feel like buying shocks and a arms at the same time...

People think that just because they spend 1800 bucks on shocks they have the best handling. Those shocks are just as good as the 700 buck shocks if you don't know how to dial in the top dollar ones. Most people don't know how to dial them in. I have the $700 Fox Floats and they work perfectly. Spending any more I would have ended up with shocks that are above my riding ability.

What do you mean if long travel a arms are any count?

My friend just put a set of Elka shocks from a 450R on his 400ex he said it was like riding a cadillac now and that is with stock A-Arms.

Okay.... lets get you some real insight here buddy... I have been around the 400ex for years and wanna help you out as much as i can!!! the 450r shocks are NOT a direct bolt on..... there is some grinding to be done. There is a bolt in the upper shock mount on the 400ex that you must compensate for by grinding a little bit off of the top of the 450r shock.

Works shock...... :rating02: .... THEY STRAIGHT UP SUCK...... They are non rebuildable and use ancient technology and are just a waste of your money... don't get em... Buy the 450r shocks... send them to GT Thunder and get them revalved... you seriously will never need a dual or triple rate setup unless you are racing MX like me.

I can answer any question you have about the 400ex. I have rebuilt and built dozens of these quads, i know them inside and out.

I'm telling you that the Elka shock that came off of a 450R were a direct fit, We also installe a durablu axle from the same 450R the only thing that had to be done was the sprocket housing had to be changed since the offset between the 450R and 400EX are different. the shocks fit perfect though. the guy my friend got the parts from sold his 450R and my friend traded out a paint job for the parts he also got a new steering stabilizer for the 450R which I installed on the 400 and it fit too. I would assume the stock 450 shocks would have the same eyelet demensions as the Elkas but I know they fit perfect with no frame mods.

Are they worth spending the extra loot for trail riding? I was looking at some Houser's stock and long travel. Big price difference....

He is correct. The stock 450 shocks need the very top ground down a bit

\I will get you a pic we didn't grind anything they fit, I'm not trying to cause any arguments but he rides probably as hard as the next guy with no clearance issues. be back in a few min.

I'm not talking about the Elkas. The shocks that come on the 450 oem, that cast metal that is around the eyelet probably sticks out further than the elkas
