So I recently acquired a 2002 foreman 450 4x4 for a steal. However it does need some rear brake work. The cable is extremely really loose and the whole rear brake assembly is locked up. Also the little butterfly nuts are rusted on the brake cable something bad. What is some advice to try and get them off. If the system is in this rough of shape does it make sense to replace the whole assembly. Also the bottom cable is not attached to anything. If stops right by the foot boards. What does this go to? Has anyone done the conversion to the drum brakes?

welcome. first pic, that goes to the foot brake lever..or shall I say..it should/did !!..lol. second pic, spray the nuts and cable down with pb plaster, take some vise grips, clamp them on the nut made into the cable right at the rubber boot, then take another set of vise grips or pliers , and start backing the t-nuts off the cable, work them back a little at a time, pb plaster, turn them back on, soak, work them off, go slow !!, if you go too fast ?, your going to over heat the cable threads, and snap them off. if your going to replace them ( which you should anyway ! ) then at least try to salvage the t-nuts and springs. your going to have to break down the whole rear brake drum area, and go through it. down load the service manual from our site here, and read up on the rear brakes, as well as how the brake cables route from foot brake lever to rear brake, as well as left handle bar rear brake, back to the rear brake panel.
