I have a 2001 450es that was brought to me and would not shift, no shift motor noise or anything. After checking battery, fuses, shift switch i swapped out the ecm with a used one i had. it worked great so i ordered a new oem one. put it on and worked. after a day or two it quit shifting again. same thing. So i put my used one back on and it shifted like it should. Do i have a bad brand new part or something else causing problems?

It is possible the shift motor is drawing too much current and burning out the ECU
after a number of shifts. I assume you shifted gears a bunch of times with the
new unit before it gave out?

Are both units identical (made by elesys)?

It is hard to measure the current because the motor stays on less than 1/4 second.
I would replace the shift motor before using it again, or install my relay system
to bypass the ECU.
