I got a 97 400 foreman that runs but is a basket case. The PO had an es 450 front diff. And driveshaft he planned to install but never did. Will it work in my 400 with 400 cv axles. There are no cv axles So i am gonna have to buy cv axles anyhow. I am unsure if i should buy 400 axles or 450 cv axles. I have read on here there are differences in the a arms. This being a basket case i dont know which a arms are on the bike. Any help appreciated.

If it’s a 98-01 450 diff it will fit in no problem. You can use 400 CV axles as long as the front suspension on the 400 is original, if it’s been swapped to 450 front suspension (taller ride height by a good 2”) you will need to use 450 front axles.

If the diff is a 02-04 450 traxloc unit things will be a lot more complicated than a simple bolt on install. These diffs had an electronic mechanism on them for selectable 2/4wd, I don’t remember exactly what’s involved, it would be best to do a search on that topic.

The diff i have is 2wd/4wd selectable. I figured i could wire a switch up to it to switch between 2/4wd. Do you know how i can tell which a arms are in it? Could i use 450 cv axles even if it had 400 a arms?

No the a-arms are longer on the 450, so longer axles. The 02-04 axles may even be different again with that diff. There is a good pic on google of the 450 vs. 400 to give you an idea, best bet might be to compare some dimensions in the service books though.

just a word of caution here ^^^^, so called '' just wire it up '' ?, is not as simple as you think ??!!!. these differentials don't operate off 12 volts like you think ?!, they get odd volts to engage the front pinion gear, because it uses a magnet to operate it in and out of 2wd to 4wd. soooooooooo, be warned now, WATCH WHAT YOUR WIRING UP ?..OR YOUR GONNA BURN YOUR WIRE HARNESS DOWN !.
