Hi I have a problem with the rear diff on a rancher 420 , it sounds like the teeth have/are shearing off , more so when towing.
How hard are they to rebuild ? Or shall I just change it ? .
I've reconditioned a few engines in the past but never a diff .
Thanks in advance.

they are pretty simple, if you have a service manual, a spec socket to remove the large lock nut just under the pinion oil seal. other than this ?, and the pinion gear needle bearing replacement ?, simple. if your not that good at repairing it ?, its beyond your skill ?, yeah, its easier to replace the whole unit.
