I have a 2015 rancher 420 4x4 that is not shifting. When you go to start the gear light will go from N to 2 and you hear a repeated clicking sound. Once you give it a minute and it finally stays in Neutral and you start it it’s ok for a few minutes and then the - comes on flashing a 22 code. If you turn it off for awhile it will sort of reset it self and then run again ok for a few minutes and the repeats everything again. I have replaced the grease, the speed sensor and the angle sensor. Anybody have any suggestions on how to get this thing up and running?

What voltage is your battery showing? Needs to be 12.4 or above. I assume your ATV is an ES model, yes?

You don't say it is an electric shift but I'm guessing that is what you have. On the front of the motor close to the shift motor there is an 8mm stud sticking out. That is the end of the shift shaft. Put a wrench on it and see if you can shift it manually, what does the display do then? Hard to tell from the info you've given if it is an electrical or mechanical problem. And yes check batter, condition and connections. Also all the connections on the right side rear of the bike.

It is an ES. I have checked the battery voltage and it’s perfect. I will try the connections again and make sure they are clean. Thanks for responding.

I am having similar issue with my 2011 rancher 420 es 4x4, I have replaced the two gears in the front both brand new and still will not shift , new angle sensor and new shift motor none have solved the issue was flashing code 22 until I replaced the angle sensor now it flashes 24 , which is more drive circuit , does anyone have a idea on how I can fix this without buying a whole wiring harness ?

Did you solve this? I'm having the exact same issue and have followed the exact same steps. Only difference is, after replacing the shift motor I'm getting nothing from it, like it's not getting power

Are the 420's shift motor the same as the 500's? I am making a ES to Foot Shift conversion kit for the 500's now. Seems like a lot of issues with the ES on the 420. If it isn't the same I will work on a kit for the 420 next. Hopefully it is the same. Anyone know?
