New to the site, but it looks like a good one with lots of good people. Just recently purchased a 2008 Rancher 420 with the electric push button shift. It seems there are a lot of fixes out there for a multitude of issues. My issue is going from 2nd to 3rd or from 3rd to 4th. When parked with the brake on, it shifts through all the gears up and down perfectly. I am assuming because of this, the motor must be good, the buttons must be working fine. Anything else I can eliminate, knowing it shifts fine when parked. I tried the clutch adjustment and that seemed fine already, as there was very little movement before I felt much resistance. Maybe an 1/8 to a 1/4 turn. Thanks for your help and also the good reading I've been enjoying!!!!

You say you have issues, you might want to describe them in more detail. I have an 08 and took a while to learn and figure out the system. My bike shifts great now and i luv my ES. On extreme cold days i need to let the bike warm before it will shift well, below -10. Start by looking at your front cover. I recommend removal cleaning and reassemble to start . Took me less than 30 minutes the first time. Use a lithium grease when putting back together especially in cold climates.

should you take off the shifting motor an housing,[where the gears are], you dont have to separate the motor from the housing. if the grease is caked, an hard, then replace it with lithium grease. you probably/should want to do this anyway, since it is off. i cant say anymore. i'm still on the 2000es.

Can someone describe what the shift motor with grease in it looks like? I just bought an '08 420 Rancher 4X4 and I was plowing with it and it stuck in Reverse. It was cold outside and is now working again but I would like to go in and clean old grease out and replace but I am not sure what I am looking for or at??

Thanks
