So I bought a 2007 Honda 416ex in December and I love the thing, reliable, sleek and just in really nice shape. It's bored out to a 416ex from the previous owner. I got it up to 60mph with the gearing it has now (down 2 teeth in the rear) I've been told by my bud his 02 400 hits 68-69 mph with only a Slip on on his 400. So im assuming somethings up with mine, can someone help me out?

Its all in the gearing. The newer 400s they tightened up the internal gearing to make it more rideable on the trails. Since they added reverse and the 450r took over as the race quad. Honestly unless your trying to highway ride it what is the need to do 60 mph anyway? Honestly you are playing with fire going highway speeds on tires that are in no way shape or form even remotely safe at that speed. My .02

When I first got my 400EX it wouldn’t even pull the first time I got it into 5th gear. Axle bearings were completely shot.

But also at that speed the tires felt so unstable I didn’t feel comfortable doing it. I dropped a tooth in the front and went up a tooth in the rear and still rarely use 5th

My 416 easily hits 70. I take it too work sometimes, I run Hoosier flat track tires when I do. I don’t remember the exact sprocket size I have but I’ll look

I’ve thought about getting some street tires for my quad. What’s the word on those Hoosiers?

Ouch! I'd check out the Speed racer tires by Kenda. But I'm a tight wad...
