Hello all. I am building a 416 for my 04. Question is what is the formula for ring end gap? Bore x .0050 for top ring and bore x .0055 for second ring? I know the end gap for the oil rings is minimum .015.

TIA

Ring gaps are dependent on the material the rings are made of, their thickness, bore diameter, piston material & design, engine application, etc. Many factors to be considered... so there are no hard and fast "rules" when it comes to adjusting ring end gaps. Contact the manufacturer of the piston & rings set for the recommended gaps when you are working with aftermarket parts.

Is it a Wiseco piston & rings kit? If so, its listed on the setup sheet in the box. If not check the website of the maker for specs or ask them for the info you need.

Yep, came as a kit with new cylinder, stage 2 cam, chain, gaskets, and I opted for the ARP studs just in case. I'm using a Xr400 head gasket though as it is a little thinner for compression. . The the spec sheet with it only has an end gap table for automotive engines. High per/street strip, late model stock, circle track/drag race, and then all the power adder options. Guess I'll call up JE

Yeah, I'd give them a call and ask to speak with an engineer or an ATV pistons tech. They know their product lines better than we do... Snoop around the forums for posts from slammedranger too. He knows just about everything there is to know about the Sport models, and in particular the 400EXs & 416 kits. He knows of better studs than the ARPs too.
