hello all
I'm a newb to the forum and have a few questions.

I've worked as an auto mechanic for 11yrs and turn wrenches on my buddies quads and boats.

I'm currently doing a project TRX400es for a bud. He has a 440 big bore kit,(new cylinder, new piston.(12 to 5 compression ratio is what he told me), HotCams stage 3 cam, and a carb off of a 450, open airbox with a UNI filter, Moose ignition module, Header and DG Pipe.

My questions: 1. pump gas or higher octane race or aviation fuel.
2. 450 carb, what is the "hot start" and how does it work, what are the 2 electrical components on the carb? (one looks to be a TPS).
3. what problems can I expect to see with this setup?

Thanks to any and all who can help out.

Welcome to the forums. sounds like your buddy is going all out. 440 kits I've heard do not last long no durability in the engine once done. anything above 11:1 CR need 100 octane to perform properly some sites recommend 110 octane I run AVGAS it's 100LL and runs really cool in my quad. I havent had any issues wih it yet, AVGAS is a better qualit of fuel than MOTOGAS it has more testing done just for what it's purpose is. I wouldn't go with the 450R carb they are great but I think I would go custom Mikuni makes a nice 38mm flatside that would work great.

I've heard the same about the 440 kits.

I would also get new head bolts the stock ones wont hold up. Get a set of harden head bolts.
Yeah, I wonder if that's why they won't hold up? Maybe people aren't getting the hardened head bolts.
