Hi,
Working on a 400ex and it has what I would call a worn bearing sound when it is in neutral idling. If I pull in the clutch the noise goes away. Im thinking the bearing in the pressure plate? Any how while inspecting the clutch I noticed the gear attached to the basket has a little right to left play and the springs can be rotated is this normal? What do you look for as far as a bad basket. Thanks

Turning springs is normal. Right to left play im not 100% sure on. The main thing you want to do is check the surface that the clutch fibers contact the prongs on the basket. If there is any grooving in the basket you will want to file it down smooth or you will get clutch disngagement problems. The plates will hang on the grooves and not release properly.
