I have a silly question. My slack on my 07 400ex chain needs to be adjusted. I've read my owners manual and Honda shop manual but still cannot figure out how to adjust the slack. I loosed the pinch bolts, but how do I move the "bearing holder" It says to use an allen key?? but where do you stick the allen key??

Loosen the pinch bolts and look to the left were the sprocket is you will see holes that is your adjustment you turn one way or the other to titan or loosen.

I think I need a new chain. It's at the max adjustment now, won't budge anymore. over 1 -5/8 inch slack. What is a good chain to purchase? Don't want to spend an arm and a leg though.

I think it is the same as the 450...

Take the chain off and cut a link out or 2. Most of the time if the chain is worn you will need a new front and rear sprocket.

Yes my chain looks just like this one. The top photo, where the notch is, does not seem to want to budge! I know I'm doing something wrong! What tool do I need to move that bearing holder?

I thought the sprockets would be worn as well, however, they look really good for being original.

Since I've not had this bike since it was new, I don't know how old the chain is.

There is some 1-3 link kinking just starting to occur!

Replace the chain. It is scary what a worn chain will do to a sprocket. An old chain that does not bend like it is suppose to will/can actually strip all of the teeth off of sprocket. Happen to my dad. A brand new sproket looked like a brake rotor after he was done with the race.
