no..you cannot test the c.d.i..you can test the wires that lead to it..but not the c.d.i itself..if your getting fire at the spark plug..then your c.d .i is good, your valves might be out of time..your piston rings maybe worn..and not getting enough compression..or your timming maybe out..or..you could have a bad valve ?..alot comes into play for an engine to run on these bikes...start with checking your compression..go from there.

Make sure your air filter is not stopped up. You have to have air for it to run also.

I checked the compression its at 120psi I took the head off and the the horazontal lines on the cam gear was just a little bit off but i read somewhere that they might be.( not lining up with the head) but the chain was tight I checked my valve adjustment and that seems right.

I am now putting a fully charged batt in the quad and see if that might help i heard that you have to have a good batt or it wont fire.

not true...the battery doesn't have any play into it not firing..it only makes the starter work..the pick up coil..the coil..and the stator..and c.d.i is the main parts that make it run.

you stated in your first post..that your getting fire ?..or did i read that wrong ?..if your not getting spark at your plug..when you take the plug out..and hold it to the engine..crank it over..are you getting a good blue spark ?..if not..then it leads me to think your c.d.i ..stator..coil..or pick up coil could be the problem..battery only makes the starter crank..once the bike is running..the stator generates elec..then the pick up coil sends the signal to the c.d.i..then the c.d.i sends the signal to the spark plug coil..which in turn..fires the spark plug..for what it's worth..make sure your kill switch is on..< yeah..i know..but alot of ppl will crank a engine..and never bother to check to make sure the kill switch is on ?..lol.

I agree with Shadetree. The only test for a CDI is to replace with a known good CDI. If you have spark at the spark plug, then it's not the CDI. The spark needs to be a strong, bright blue spark and it needs to be consistent.

it does have spark the air filter is good. I put a new plug in it and when i checked the spark its more orange the blue. i put it in and fire for a sec then died now I cant get it to fire back up. Im goin to look at the filter in the tank and see how that looks.

thanks for all the advise guys :)

Sounds like you have a weak spark. Might be your ignition coil or stator.

weak spark..and from what you first told us..the timming maybe out enough to not fire up and run..if the timming is off..say..about 1 link on your timming marks..you might be getting fire..but...the valves are losing compresson..i know you said you had 125 psi..but..if you don't have that 125 psi at TDC..it won't run very good at all.
