Hey fellas,

I have a 350 with a bit of an idle problem. It idles "fairly" decent but I can hear it misfiring every 3 or four seconds. After a while idling, it dies. Also, the exhaust header gets red hot when reving it a little. It seems to glow a little while idleing. Is this normal? I've never noticied it before.

Recently I replaced the spark plug with an original honda from the dealer. What could be causing this? I messed with the idle screw and it either get's hotter (revs up) or dies.

Any ideas?

welcome to the forums..your engine is running really lean..this causes it to turn your ex header red..not to mention it won't idle right...do you know where your air/fuel mixture screw is ??..if so..lightly seat it in...then back it out 1 3/4 turns..see how it does. also..check your air filter before you do this.

Thanks for your reply, already checked the air filter and it's clean. Where is the air/fuel screw on it?
You didn't say which 350 you have, but the air/fuel screw will be on the bottom of the carb, in front of the carb bowl. You can't see it from the side, it's on the main bottom, threaded up into the carb.

ADDED: OK, I just saw in your other thread, it's a 350 Rancher. The initial setting for the air/fuel (pilot) screw should be about 1-3/4 turns out from lightly seated. In other words, turn it all the way in until it stops (DO NOT TIGHTEN or you will damage the end of the screw). Then, back it out 1-3/4 turns.

Thanks Helmut, I'll give that a try and let you know.

The one the blue arrow points to is the pilot (air/fuel) screw. The yellow arrow is pointing to the carb bowl drain screw.

Oh yeah, purring like a kitty! Thanks Helmut, you da man!

I did have to turn open it about 2 3/4 turns before it stopped misfiring and the header wasn't bright red. Not it idles beautiful, smooth and it runs great!

Could be, but I would say the carb needs cleaning.
